Crispy Onion Pakora Recipe
Crispy Onion Pakora Component:
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1 cup gram flour
- 2 tbsp rice flour
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 green chili, finely chopped (optional)
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- a pinch of asafoetida
- a handful of fresh coriander, chopped
- salt to taste
- oil for frying
Crispy Onion Pakora Instruction:
Prepare Onion Pakora Batter:
- In a large bowl, mix gram flour, rice flour, ginger-garlic paste, chopped green chilies (if using), red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin, asafoetida, and salt.
- Add water gradually to the mixture and make a smooth and thick batter while stirring continuously. Make sure there are no lumps.
Add Onion and Coriander:
- Add finely chopped onion and chopped coriander leaves to the batter.
- Mix well making sure the onion pieces are evenly coated in the batter.
Heat oil for frying:
- To fry the pakoras, heat oil in a deep pan or wok on medium heat.
- To check whether the oil is hot enough, drop a small amount of batter in the oil. If it immediately crackles on the surface, then the oil is ready for frying.
Fry onion fritters:
- Take small portions of batter-coated onion pieces and gently drop them into the hot oil.
- Fry the fritters in batches, taking care not to overcrowd the pan.
- Fry them on medium heat till they become golden brown and crisp. Keep turning them in between for uniform frying.
- Once cooked, remove the pakoda using a slotted spoon and place them on a plate covered with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Serve and Enjoy:
- Serve the crispy onion fritters immediately.
- They can be enjoyed alone or mixed with mint chutney, tamarind chutney, or ketchup for dipping. Onion fritters are best served fresh and hot, so enjoy them right away!
